About Active Birth Yoga for Pregnancy

These special Pregnancy Yoga classes include not only gentle postures, stretches and movements, but also birth preparation, relaxation, discussion and refreshments.

You can attend anytime during pregnancy, from 14 weeks until the birth of your baby.

Active Birth Yoga is very gentle, adapted from Hatha Yoga especially for pregnancy.  Inspired by yoga teacher Vanda Scaravelli's work, the emphasis is on working gently yet deeply within the body, naturally with the breath, the spine and gravity.   This proves to be particularly effective, relevant and helpful for remaining healthy during pregnancy, and for birth preparation.

Classes are personal, the atmosphere is relaxed and non-competitive, and alternative postures are given where appropriate.

No previous yoga experience is necessary; suitable for complete beginners or the more experienced, for all levels of fitness and flexibility (including SPD sufferers).

Yoga mats and other equipment is provided (although if you have a birth/yoga ball, feel free to bring it with you).

Classes are ongoing and "organic" -planned thoughtfully and always evolving.  They usually last 2 hours, which allows you time to fully relax and experience a connection with your baby and the other women as you prepare weekly for birth.

Ex-class-members are welcomed back with their newborn babies to tell their birth story over tea time, when you also have the opportunity to ask questions and talk things through in a supportive environment.

Sometimes we have a special guest speaker to provide information or answer questions (e.g. a doula, hypnotherapist, acupuncturist, nutritionalist or other professional offering services or support to pregnant women).

More than just a yoga class...the benefits include:

-relieving aches and pains including back ache and tension within muscles
-improving balance as your weight, flexibility and centre of gravity changes
