active birth

"I didn't use any medical pain relief - the water was so relaxing - I could have easily fallen asleep afterwards. The breathing techniques really helped - the midwife said my controlled breathing made things so much easier especially towards the end. I always remembered that the contractions will pass and to breath through them. Thanks so much for all the information and techniques, they helped both me and Roger (and baby Max) in having a birth that we wished for." (see more testimonials)

About Active Birth Workshops

A must for all who are interested in exploring the natural, instinctive and holistic side of birth and early parenthood, Active Birth workshops aim to help you and your partner to relax and feel confident as you approach birth.

Enhance trust in your body, and discover the joy of normal, natural birth, and all it's benefits.

Visual and practical elements to the session bring real meaning to the process and help to increase your chances of a natural, easier and positive birth experience for you and your baby.

Partners (or birth companions) are recommended to attend, as useful information and support strategies are included, as well as the opportunity for any questions or concerns to be discussed.

Each birth is unique and also unpredictable, an unknown journey for baby, mother and father.

An Active Birth is still possible for those who are considered "high risk", or find they need to have medical interventions whilst in labour.

Good intentions go a long way, so however your baby is welcomed into the world, life with your new baby can have the best possible start.

Active Birth workshops enable you to be informed and empowered - be open to, and welcome the experience, whilst being more aware of your options.  They can be attended as an addition - or alternative - to other antenatal classes.

Increase your understanding of:

- birthing instinct and how to enhance your power to birth your baby normally

- physiological and hormonal process of birth

- how to optimise the environment for an easier, undisturbed labour

- active birth positions and the use of props

- partner support - practically, physically and emotionally - and what to expect

- harmless ways to ease labour such as massage, water, TENS, complementary therapies and more

- how yoga can greatly help prepare for labour, birth and early parenthood

- increasing the possibility of an easier, shorter, less painful, calmer and more relaxed experience (for you and your baby)

- continuing the ethos by caring naturally and instinctively for your newborn
All pregnant women and their birth partners are welcome to attend the workshops, whether or not you are taking other antenatal classes, whether you are already a mum, or if this is your first baby.

Numbers are kept small in these special workshops, so your individual needs are taken into account, and a workshop information/reference pack is included.

Healthy, light refreshments are also provided.

Items including baby slings, natural baby products and Preparing for Active Birth Handbook by Janet Balaskas, are available to purchase.

Read testimonials to see what workshop attendees have to say.

If you and your birth partner would like to register for a workshop, or enquire about a private booking, please contact me or submit the Active Birth online booking form.
