Q:  There are a few different classes on offer for mums and babies, I am unsure which to attend and when.
A:  If you are starting classes when your baby is young, then the following is a natural progression from sessions in the early weeks following birth, up to toddler-hood!  (However, you are welcome to join any class at any time, providing your baby is at the relevant age, and you may attend more than one class as you wish):
    1. New Baby & Me (anytime from 6 weeks - approx 4 months)
    2. Mum & Baby Yoga (with babies, anytime from 10 weeks - crawling)
    3. Baby Yoga (approx 6-12 months; sitting to walking)
    4. Mums Yoga (mothers only, with babies approx 12 weeks - 18 months)

Q:  My baby is only 4 weeks old but I would love to start Baby classes as soon as possible, when can we start?
A:  Babies can benefit from massage and movement from birth, but before 6 weeks of age can find a class situation over-stimulating, so it's best to wait until that age.  However, a private postnatal relaxation / baby massage session is possible for those with younger babies, or for those who cannot get to classes. Also, it is often better for Mums to wait until 6 weeks after birth (and have had their 6-week check by the midwife/doctor) before embarking on any exercise or (10 weeks for c-section).

Q:  My baby was born via c-section.  When can I start postnatal classes?
A:  Babies who are born by elective c-section can really benefit from baby massage soon after birth as it helps to get their systems going and soothe them.   For mums, it is often best to wait until 10 weeks after birth, although if you are feeling well and would like to benefit from the relaxation, healthy breathing, posture and very gentle stretch aspects of the class, you are welcome to come along.

Q:  I have never done yoga before, although I would like to give it a try.  I am a bit worried though, as I don't feel fit or flexible at all.
A:  It doesn't matter; these classes are suitable for women of all levels of fitness, flexibility or ability.  The postnatal yoga is very gentle and restorative, and it is for you if you would like to regain core strength, ease tiredness and aches and pains, relax and get support whilst meeting other mums and babies.

Q: My baby is quite unsettled and colicky and I am worried if he cries he will disturb the class.
A: Babies are sometimes unsettled at times during the class, especially when they are young, new to the class, teething or simply having an off-day.  You are welcome to feed and comfort your baby as much as he needs.  Quite often babies settle into the class after a few times, and it is a supportive environment for you both.
